Things + Hockey

So this was a v busy day. Went out with the lovely Fanny, because she wanted to see a play or something, and being cultural is awesome, but she buggered it up and we were late and they wouldn't let us in and we saw nothing. It's okay, we still like her :D Even though she left me

Anyway.

This is the tale, with shiny photos, comme toujours.

I KNOW IT'S EXCITING, BUT KEEP YOUR HAIR ON.

The theoretical play was in a very odd part of town whose name I cannot remember, but it was under the shadow of the Casa Loma, which we never ended up visiting because too expensive.

But here's a brief point of reference anyway:

Yay.
Moving along -

The area was strange because on one hand it looked like Hipster Central but there were fancy cars and furniture shops tucked in between battered old walls.

Best.

We planned to meet up with people, but as always, it was a disorganised shemozzle (foreign kids, learn that one), so we were waiting around for a while.

Found some pretty things around Bloor.

So, why were we meeting up with people later?

For a spot of hockey, of course.

Anyone remotely aware of my existence knows I don't like sport that much, especially watching the stuff.

But this was so much fun.

Because of the NHL lockout, this was only the second best league, but still all professional and things - the Toronto Marlies vs. the Rochester Americans.

Mary was going for the Americans, obviously - the only one in the stadium. I made the mistake of wearing my red beret (red is Rochester) so I don't think I was too popular either.

SPORTS PHOTOS:

Onya, Scrivens.

Reffing a penalty foul thing I don't know what they're called besides Maz being a v. good teacher.

And look! A video!

The fans got all into it - this bloke was miming violent punching, egging on the Marlies to the roar of the crowd.

Games consist of 3 rounds of 20 minutes - in the middle of the first break?

IDDY BIDDY HOCKEY PLAYERS. AHHHHHHH.

8 yrs old, if that - SO ADORABLE.

GO LITTLE DUDE! (actually he sucked and let in the only goal, but the crowd screamed and cheered just as hard for these little guys as for the big ones).

THEN THEY START ALL TRIPPING OVER EACH OTHER AND ARGA;SLDKFJ

And in video form:

Also during the break: ice smoothing.

The Marlies' littlest fan.

More rabid, older ones.

This guy was great. Constantly heckled by the gits above, he just ignored them and did his thing.

So there'd just randomly be these massive punch ups on the ice, because hey, why not.

Fun fact: Mary's favourite player, 71, started all 3 of them. What a class act.

Marlies' mascot.

He was very enthusiastic.

Was a great game too - was 2 all by the end so it went into overtime, meaning 5 more minutes of play. If that doesn't get a result, it goes into shootouts, but the Marlies had the last say before it got to that.

THE CROWD GOES INSANE.

The dejected ones. A bit sad actually :( Mary offered to cheer them up.

So...yeah. I'd do this again. Very awesome.

Sport: 1
Tallulah: 0

You win this time, Canada.

Until later...

  1. Wait, wait, did you mock that guy saying 'sooory' in your video???? DID I JUST HEAR YOU DO THAT?????
I'm laughing at your enthusiasm for sport. It's like, oh, this game, wow, is that how it works, oh what a pity. Oh man. Now to get you to an AFL game. But you're not allowed to hum at AFL.
I'm so jelly that you got to go to an ice hockey game, btw. I'll help out ANY of the player that need some after-game cheering up. That's fine by me.
